Rory Walworth Memorial Fund continues to raise money in the UK
Daily we receive application for bicycles from various countries around the world. The stories I read often leave me feeling overwhelmed with the lack of what we can do.
The fact is, there are so many people that need bicycles and raising funds and deciding who are the most needy when most are, are the hardest parts of our job.
We are ever thankful that there are so many generous people out there that donate money to Wheels 4 Life projects. Some take it a step further, they have fundraisers and donate the proceeds to us knowing that they are helping the poorest to improve their lives.
Back in my homeland, England, the Walworth family and their friends have not just had one fundraiser, but a whole series of fundraisers in memory of their son Rory. Rory tragically died in September 2009 in a mountainbiking accident. Rory, a kind, gentle, clever and sporty young man had so much going for him, not least, a family that adored him.
They have been truly selfless in their grief, remembering him with such bravery and honoring his name through their work with The Rory Walworth Memorial Fund and Wheels 4 Life.
Thanks to the Walworths, over a hundred bikes have been donated to a number of projects including schools, an orphanage and healthcare workers, working in Malaria and HIV prevalent communities.
The Walworths are continuing their fundraising, with sponsored challenges and events and sales like their Christmas sale with 20 stalls selling great ideas for Christmas.
I will keep you posted about the progress of Rory’s Fund.
In the meantime, a massive thank you to the Family Walworth, their friends and all that have helped to help so many.
Asante sana
